The Wildlife Conservation Fish Art Contest is an annual competition that invites students from kindergarten through 12th grade to learn about fish and their habitats by creating original artwork and writing a short piece about their chosen species. Organized by the Wildlife Forever organization, the contest combines science and creativity, encouraging young people to research a fish species and share what they’ve learned through both art and writing. Winners can earn state and national recognition, and some artwork is even featured in special exhibits and publications. It’s a fun and meaningful way for students to connect with nature and express their love for wildlife.
This year, the third graders at Elkton Elementary participated in the contest by learning about the walleye, a fish native to South Dakota. We’re thrilled to announce that the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners for South Dakota are all from our school!
Congratulations to Amiyah D. for placing 1st, Hudson V. for placing 2nd, and Nora M. for placing 3rd—what an amazing accomplishment!
A big thank you to Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Weidenbach for leading this educational opportunity and supporting our students throughout the project.
