
High School Students---To promote seat belt use and safe driving, the South Dakota Department of Public Safety’s Office of Highway Safety and South Dakota Broadcasters Association are giving away another $20,000! One South Dakota teen will win $10,000 plus another $10,000 for a school-sponsored activity or program at their school. To enter, students can take a two-minute safe-driving quiz at LessonLearnedSD.com by April 15, 2023.

The National Honor Society hosted the Community Blood Bank drive yesterday here at school. We had a total of 25 units donated which will help save the lives of 75 local patients! The Community Blood Bank helps stock hospitals in our local area, so donating to them ensures your donation stays to help local people. Thank you for all who helped out!

Elkton Public Schools Kindergarten Screening (for students who will be entering Kindergarten Fall 2023 and have not been in the Elkton Preschool/Jr. Kindergarten program) will be held on April 12th. The screening will take 20 minutes. During this time, the Preschool teacher will do an informal assessment with the student while parents will have an opportunity to meet with the Kindergarten teachers and register their child for Kindergarten.
Please call the school, 605-542-2541, to make an appointment for your child's screening.
Students who are currently enrolled in the Elkton Preschool/Jr. Kindergarten class do not need to be screened.
Parents who live outside of the Elkton School District may apply for open-enrollment for their child when at the screening.

The Elkton School District will be CLOSED on Thursday, March 16th based on the forecasted weather conditions.

The Elkton School District will start at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 15th. Buses will run on plowed roads only. Parents, if you know your road is not plowed, please contact your driver.

Yesterday, we had 12 Junior High Students travel to Brookings for the Festival of Young Voices. After a lot of hard work during the day, they had a very successful concert!


Our school received a shout out from the Brookings Salvation Army for our efforts. Ms. Leighton, these students, and myself want to thank everyone again. It was amazing to see all these donations and to see the students come together to make this run smoothly!

Today these 8th grade girls attended the Women in Science Conference at STI! Students learned all about various STEM careers & programs for post-secondary education. They also enjoyed many hands on exhibits, taste testing cheese, & how to look for plastics in beauty products. What a blast!
